Full marks go out to the Miami Heat, as they destroyed the Boston Celtics in Game 3 in Miami. The series heads to a Game 4 at Kaseya Center, and we do not know which Celtics team we will see on Tuesday. Boston was outplayed in every single way in the third game of the series.

Jimmy Butler continued to dispatch the Celtics defense while Boston cannot find its offensive rhythm. It has just been Grant Williams and Derrick White who have been shooting well. Boston could not find the right formula on offense in Games 1 and 2, and the team looked worse in Game 3.
Joe Mazzulla took all the fault for the Game 3 performance. The Celtics first-year head coach had the following to say about the game: “I just didn’t have them ready to play. Didn’t have them execute the proper gameplan. Didn’t put them in the proper mentality to be ready.”
I asked Jayson Tatum why the Celtics hung Grant Williams out to dry guarding Jimmy Butler:
“We just can't leave guys on the island. We got to show more of a presence, be long and help.”

The 2023 conference finals for both the Eastern and Western Conferences have had some very surprising games, and Game 3 might have been one of the most surprising. Boston played horribly, and there was no fight. The Celtics just did not show up.

The Celtics are now in an impossible situation in the 2023 NBA postseason. There has never been a team to come back from down 3-0 in NBA history. It has happened in baseball and hockey but not in the professional ranks of basketball. Boston has the better roster, but the green did not show it through the first three games. Can the Celtics show some promise? It seems like this would be the time.
