In our Friday betting preview of Red Sox-Yankees we saw the under 8 runs hit with the final being 3-2, the Red Sox winning through the first 5 innings (which we faded), and Rafael Devers hitting the over in his Hits+Runs+RBI and homering off Gerrit Cole to left center field. Our Yankees hitting props with Stanton and Rizzo both didn’t go to plan, as Garrett Whitlock and the Red Sox pitching staff showed up on Friday night in a much needed performance that could fuel a turnaround. We will try to turn around our betting results from last night and pick some winners. Game 2 of Sox-Yanks is scheduled for 7:35pm EST on FOX.

Pitching Matchup: Houck vs German
After a low scoring affair on Friday night, let’s see if these two starters can replicate the work done by Cole and Whitlock. For the young Tanner Houck, it’s all about consistency and not getting rattled early into his starts. His ERA has jumped from month to month, posting a 4.50 in April and 6.08 in May, and is coming off a start vs the Rays on June 4th in which he let up 4 earned runs over 5 IP. He will also need to control his pitches more after surrendering 4 walks to the Rays in that start. He has a good track record against the Yankees in his career, posting a 2-1 record with a 2.28 ERA and 25 Ks in his 9 appearances. I like Houck to go over 15.5 outs recorded (-120) in this start tonight against a lineup that’s missing their big bopper in Aaron Judge.
Domingo German is coming off a good start against the Dodgers on June 4th in which he went 6.2 innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 6 against one of the MLBs best lineups. After a rocky April in which he posted a 5.54 ERA over 5 starts, German had righted the ship in May (2.54 ERA) and looked good to start June. With that being said, the Red Sox are 6th lowest in total strikeouts as a lineup this season and German varies in his strikeout numbers and has only posted 6 strikeouts in a start twice since the beginning of May (6 starts). I like German to go under 5.5 strikeouts (-155) in tonights game.
Hitting Props – All About Verdugo
The Red Sox got contributions from many last night after posting 10 hits but only having 3 runs to show for it. 2-hit games from Alex Verdugo, Justin Turner, Rafael Devers and Triston Casas were key in the Sox win on Friday. One of those four hitters above is who I’m keying in on tonight for the Sox: Alex Verdugo.
In 13 plate appearances vs German, Verdugo has gone 5-12 (.417 BA) with one HR and one RBI. After a mediocre start to June, I feel this is the game where he breaks out against a pitcher he has found success against. I like Verdugo in pretty much every way tonight, give me his over 1.5 Total Bases (+115), Over 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI (-130) and a sprinkle on a Verdugo home run (+600). It may be a lot to ask for, but with his track record vs German and coming off a 2 hit night, I like this spot for Dugie in the Bronx which favors lefties at the plate.
For the Yanks on Friday, they got their 2 runs from a Josh Donaldson solo shot in the 6th and a Kiner-Falefa run scored from a Garrett Whitlock wild pitch in the 7th. Outside of that, they got a 2-hit game from DJ LeMahieu. Past history doesn’t favor many of these Yankees hitters (Stanton, LeMahieu) against Houck, but there are plenty of faces in the lineup that Houck has little to no experience against. I have 2 plays for the Yanks hitters tonight: Anthony Volpe to record a hit (-160) and Anthony Rizzo over 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI (-110).
Game Prediction: Under 9 Runs (-120) and Red Sox over 4.5 Total Runs (+115)
With the Yankees track record against Tanner Houck and the Red Sox bats coming to life on Friday after a rough stretch of games, I think they’ll be able to continue their solid hitting in the Bronx tonight after getting their early season MVP (2 months on the IL) Adam Duvall back into the lineup. I like the under again in tonights game with no Aaron Judge for the Yankees and Harrison Bader on the IL as well. I am hoping for around a 5-3 game tonight in the second of a three game set in New York.
