Angels vs. Brewers: Series Preview, Predictions and Odds

The Los Angeles Angels (14-12) are in Milwaukee for a three-game series against the Brewers (16-9) this weekend.

Tonight’s pitching matchup is between Tyler Anderson (0-1, 7.20 ERA, 11 Ks) of the Angels and Wade Miley (3-1, 1.96 ERA, 17 Ks).

The Brewers open as -1.5 run favorites and -135 outright winners, with an over/ under of 9 runs scored in the game.

Winners of three in a row and five of their last seven, the Angels are hot and want to build on this momentum against one of baseball’s best teams to start this season.

Let’s take a look at the best picks for tonight, and preview the rest of the series as well.

Best Picks: Angels vs Brewers

Brewers -1.5, +145

Wade Miley has pitched very well this season, and it’s an easy pick to roll with him.

Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani are always game-stoppers, and can reverse Miley’s fortunes in a heartbeat, but Milwaukee has the bullpen and hitting advantages in this series. Trout is also 2/18 in his career vs. Miley.

Over 9 Runs, -105

Expect a quality start from Miley, but not from Anderson.

He’s given up 16 Earned Runs in 20 innings pitched, an ugly mark for any pitcher.

The Angels are also a high scoring team (fifth in the MLB in team RBIs), so even if they don’t get to Miley, they can crack the bullpen a bit.

Series Preview

Game 2

Game 2 of the series will see Reid Detmers (0-1, 4.15 ERA, 25 Ks) take on Corbin Burnes (2-1, 4.55 ERA, 22 Ks).

Burnes hasn’t dominated this year like he has in the past, but he’s always a threat on the mound.

Detmers has been serviceable for the Angels this season, and they are 2-2 when he starts this season.

Game 3

Jose Suarez (0-1, 10.26 ERA, 12 Ks) is scheduled to take on Colin Rea (0-1, 5.17 ERA, 9 Ks) on Sunday afternoon.

While not winning a game this season, Rea has gone 5+ innings in every start, and has been a decent arm for the Brewers.

Suarez has some rough numbers this season, and in the only win LA has had with him as their starter, he went for just 3.1 innings.

Final Prediction

Brewers win G1 and G2, Angels take G3

LA is hot, but this is a tough matchup.

Milwaukee’s starters go deep enough into games to give this deadly bullpen the leverage to close games out.

Detmers-Burnes in Game 2 should be the most exciting game of this series, especially if Burnes returns to his old form.

If the Angels want to win this series, they have to attack the starters early and force that bullpen into uncomfortable situations.

Their pitching also has to be better, as two of the three starters have an ERA of over 7.00.
