Phillies Betting Preview: Mad Max v. Phillies

Friday’s Phillies Betting Preview saw me predict a low-scoring Phillies victory. After another strong pitching performance by Taijuan Walker and some timely hitting by the Phillies bats, Philadelphia walked away with a 5-1 victory, and PBP cashed two more bets, bringing the season total +32.5 units.

Taking center stage for the Mets is none other than the illustrious RHP Max Scherzer, a true stalwart with an awe-inspiring track record. Scherzer’s win-loss record of 6-2 speaks volumes about his unwavering ability to secure triumphs for his team. A formidable pillar in the Mets’ rotation, Scherzer boasts an impressive earned run average of 4.04 and a solid WHIP of 1.16. With an astounding 68 strikeouts in just 64.2 innings, he showcases an unparalleled knack for inducing swings and misses, solidifying his unquestionable status as the undisputed ace of the team.

Sporting a respectable batting average of .241, the Mets have mustered an impressive tally of 337 runs thus far, averaging a commendable 4.5 runs per game. The Mets’ lineup has proven to be a force to be reckoned with, unleashing a thunderous barrage of 88 home runs, leaving spectators in awe of their sheer power at the plate. Demonstrating remarkable consistency, their on-base percentage stands at a formidable .321, ensuring a steady stream of baserunners. Moreover, their slugging rate of .398 serves as a testament to their proficiency in delivering electrifying hits and capturing those coveted extra bases.

Left-handed pitcher Cristopher Sanchez is set to start for the Philadelphia Phillies. Despite his relative newness to the major leagues, Sanchez has shown promise with a 3.24 earned run average and a 1.08 walks plus hits per inning pitched. He has effectively limited opponents’ scoring opportunities, keeping his team competitive. Facing a strong Mets lineup, Sanchez aims to build on his previous performances and deliver a solid start for the Phillies.

On the offensive front, the Phillies boast a formidable lineup to counter the Mets. Sporting a solid batting average of .257, they have amassed 323 runs, averaging a respectable 4.4 runs per game, placing them in the middle of the pack among major league teams. While not leading in home runs, with 78 hits to date, the Phillies have demonstrated their prowess in manufacturing runs and consistently applying pressure on opposing pitchers. Aligning with the Mets, their on-base percentage stands at .321, while their slugging percentage slightly edges higher at .415, showcasing their ability to combine both average hitting and power at the plate.

The Wager

At first glance, this looks like an easy Mets when because of “Mad Max” being on the bump. But this is not the same Scherzer of yesterday. His home and away splits have been fairly drastic. Father Time catches everyone, and while I hate to say this, it may be time for ole Max to think about his next career.

I also like the OVER nine runs here, as I think the Phillies will be able to more than cover their half of the total, and I have doubts about the Phillies’ bullpen.
