Red Sox vs. Marlins Betting Preview, Odds, Picks

The very average Boston Red Sox are taking a bad turn near the end of June, as they have lost three straight games. Boston needs a couple of wins against the Miami Marlins to regain the momentum that Alex Cora and company had earlier this month. For the Red Sox, they need to avoid being embarrassed in front of their home crowd in Wednesday’s contest against Miami. Here are the probable pitchers: Braxton Garrett (LHP, 3-2, 3.64 ERA, 90 SO) for the Marlins and Kaleb Ort (RHP, 1-1, 5.79 ERA, 21 SO).

Boston Red Sox vs. Miami Marlins Pregame Analysis

Miami has a young lefty here in Braxton Garrett who can really throw. He already has matched his career high with 90 strikeouts on the season, and he has started 14 games in 2023 after having just 26 in his prior three years. The 25-year-old looks to carry the full load this season, and it will not be easy for the Red Sox offense against the seventh overall selection in the 2016 draft.

Garrett is coming off a 13-strikeout performance against the Pirates. Although he did not get the win in the contest, he had a great outing in which he allowed just three hits and one earned run (two runs total). In just 88 pitches, he made a huge impact:

Meanwhile, for the Red Sox, this will be a bullpen game. Ort’s one start this season came on June 18 against the Yankees. He labored for 2.1 innings but did muster four strikeouts. Then on June 25, he seemed to be finding himself. Ort threw just 10 pitches at Chicago. He looked very strong though:

Picks and Predictions for the Boston Red Sox vs. Miami Marlins

Boston Red Sox ML (+100)

Miami enters this contest 12 games above .500 while Boston is 40-40, but the FanGraphs projected standings have both the Red Sox and Marlins going 42-40 the rest of the way. It may be a bit of a stretch to say that the Red Sox can easily survive another Kaleb Ort-led bullpen game, but the value in this game is with Boston. Take the Red Sox moneyline to stop the losing streak.
